Crankshaft Position Sensor in Genuine Boxed
Add the last seven characters of your VIN in the order notes, with the engine code if you have it, and we check the part against the build record before dispatch.
An electrical part: the sensor that gives an intermittent no start when hot and nothing at all when the car is cold on a ramp being diagnosed.
We are an independent parts supplier. We are not Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or Skoda, and we are not appointed by any of them. Those are their trademarks and what we sell are parts that fit their cars. The useful thing about this group is that four badges share platforms and share parts, so the same component fits a Golf, an A3, a Leon and an Octavia and costs four different amounts at four different counters. We list it once, at one price, and tell you which platform it belongs to.
Specification and fitment
- Fits: Golf Mk5 Mk6 Mk7 Mk8, Passat B6 B7 B8, A3 8P 8V 8Y, A4 B8 B9, Leon 1P 5F KL, Octavia 1Z 5E NX, and the other group cars on the same platforms
- Platform: chosen above. This part is shared across the group. The Volkswagen, the Audi, the Seat and the Skoda all take it, it is the same component in four different boxes, and the price here is the same whichever badge is on your car. Choose your badge above for your records, not because it changes anything.
- Engine: body modules are not engine specific. Engine sensors are, and the listing filters by the platform you choose above. This group changes specification mid production and does it on a platform basis rather than a model year basis, so two cars registered the same week can take different parts. Send us the VIN with the order and we check the part against the build data before anything is dispatched. It takes two minutes and it is the difference between a part that fits and a return.
- Production dates: 2003 to 2022 depending on platform
- Quality: supplied in the group's own packaging with the group part number on it. Worth the premium where a warranty claim, a lease return or a full main dealer history depends on it, and not otherwise
- Part number: cross referenced to the group part number for your VIN and confirmed before dispatch. We do not print one number against a listing that covers several supersessions, because on this group the supersessions are the whole point
- The failure this addresses: an intermittent fault a garage has already changed two parts for, a module that stopped after water got into the plenum, a no start that is a crank sensor, or a warning light whose code names a module rather than a sensor
- Labour time: twenty minutes to three hours depending on where the part lives
- Coding: no coding, but the adaptation channels should be reset with a diagnostic system afterwards or the car keeps running on values it learned from the failed part
- Also needed: a battery support unit during any coding, because a voltage dip part way through programming is how a module becomes scrap
- Torque: not applicable to most modules
- Interval: not scheduled. What is worth scheduling is clearing the plenum drains, because that is what kills the expensive modules on this page
- Weight: approximately 0.2 kilograms
- Warranty: two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first
- Component protection: not applicable to this part
- Battery registration: a new battery has to be registered, or the charging strategy stays set for the old one and the new battery is ruined in about two years
- Water ingress: the plenum drains block, water gets in, and the modules under the scuttle die. The drain kit on this page is thirty pounds and it is the cheapest insurance on this site
- Diagnose first: an ABS light is a sensor far more often than a module. We read codes for nothing and take the charge off any repair
What arrives
- the part as described
- connector seals and pins where applicable
- fitting and coding notes
- a component protection advisory where the part carries it
Fitting
Twenty minutes to three hours. Anything that needs coding needs a stable supply while it is being coded. Send us the VIN with the order and we will tell you before dispatch whether your module carries component protection, which changes whether an independent can finish the job at all.
Which version to buy
Component protection is the thing to understand before buying any module for one of these cars. On several platforms a replacement module is locked to the car and can only be released through the manufacturer's own online system, which means an independent cannot activate it at any price. We check it from the VIN and tell you before you buy, because the alternative is a module in a box and a dealer bill you did not plan for.
Add the last seven characters of your VIN in the order notes, with the engine code if you have it, and we confirm the part before dispatch. How it works
Where a water pump, tensioner or single use bolt must be replaced at the same time, it is in the kit and the listing says so.
