DSG Oil and Filter Service Kit in Premium Aftermarket
Add the last seven characters of your VIN in the order notes, with the engine code if you have it, and we check the part against the build record before dispatch.
A service item: the forty thousand mile wet clutch service, with the correct fluid, the filter and the sump gasket.
We are an independent parts supplier. We are not Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or Skoda, and we are not appointed by any of them. Those are their trademarks and what we sell are parts that fit their cars. The useful thing about this group is that four badges share platforms and share parts, so the same component fits a Golf, an A3, a Leon and an Octavia and costs four different amounts at four different counters. We list it once, at one price, and tell you which platform it belongs to.
Specification and fitment
- Fits: Golf Mk5 Mk6 Mk7 Mk8, Passat B6 B7 B8, A3 8P 8V 8Y, A4 B8 B9, Leon 1P 5F KL, Octavia 1Z 5E NX, and the other group cars on the same platforms
- Platform: chosen above. This part is shared across the group. The Volkswagen, the Audi, the Seat and the Skoda all take it, it is the same component in four different boxes, and the price here is the same whichever badge is on your car. Choose your badge above for your records, not because it changes anything.
- Engine: 1.6 and 2.0 TDI, 1.4 1.8 and 2.0 TSI, and the 1.9 PD where stated. This group changes specification mid production and does it on a platform basis rather than a model year basis, so two cars registered the same week can take different parts. Send us the VIN with the order and we check the part against the build data before anything is dispatched. It takes two minutes and it is the difference between a part that fits and a return.
- Production dates: 2003 to 2022 depending on platform
- Quality: a well regarded aftermarket brand that is not the original supplier. Cheaper, generally good, and we say where the differences are rather than pretending there are none
- Part number: cross referenced to the group part number for your VIN and confirmed before dispatch. We do not print one number against a listing that covers several supersessions, because on this group the supersessions are the whole point
- The failure this addresses: a service interval, or the symptom the part causes once it is past it: a misfire from a tired coil, a squeal from a worn tensioner, a blocked particulate filter from the wrong oil
- Labour time: fifteen minutes to an hour and a half depending on the item
- Coding: the service interval and the oil quality channel are reset through the diagnostic system rather than the dashboard button sequence, because the button only clears the display and leaves the underlying counter where it was
- Also needed: O rings and washers where they apply, and they are in the kit rather than sold separately
- Torque: the plastic oil filter housing cap is torqued to its figure and not a grunt more. Cracking it is the commonest self inflicted oil leak on this group
- Interval: as the schedule says, and the schedule is the argument. The group's long life servicing regime stretches the oil interval on the basis of how the car has been driven. It suits a motorway car and it is actively bad for a car doing short cold journeys, which is most cars. A great many tired engines in this group are tired because they were serviced to the long life schedule in town. Switching to the fixed schedule costs one extra oil change every two years and it is the cheapest thing you can do for one of these engines.
- Weight: approximately 9.4 kilograms
- Warranty: two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first
- Oil approvals: this group runs a long list of approval numbers and they are not interchangeable. A diesel with a particulate filter needs a low ash oil and the wrong one costs a filter
- The two forgotten fluids: DSG at 40,000 miles and Haldex at 20,000. Neither is in the basic schedule and both are on this page
- Washable filters: we do not stock oiled cotton panel filters, because the oil migrates onto the air mass meter and ruins it
- One part, four badges: This part is shared across the group. The Volkswagen, the Audi, the Seat and the Skoda all take it, it is the same component in four different boxes, and the price here is the same whichever badge is on your car. Choose your badge above for your records, not because it changes anything.
What arrives
- the part as described
- every O ring, washer and seal the job needs
- the correct oil or fluid where the kit includes it
- a torque figure card
Fitting
Fifteen minutes to an hour and a half. The oil filter housing cap wants a torque wrench and the figure on the card, because cracking it happens on the bench and shows up as an oil warning three weeks later.
Which version to buy
Service parts are where the shared platform pays you back most obviously: the filter that fits a Golf fits the Octavia and the Leon and the A3, and the four counters quote four prices for the same box. Buy OE supplier unless a warranty or a lease return depends on the badge on the box. Four words get used loosely in this trade. Genuine means in the group's box with the group number on it. OE means the same part from the firm that actually makes it, in that firm's box, usually 30 to 40 per cent cheaper. Aftermarket means somebody else's version, sometimes as good and sometimes not. Remanufactured means a core stripped, measured and rebuilt to specification. Every listing here says which of the four you are looking at.
Add the last seven characters of your VIN in the order notes, with the engine code if you have it, and we confirm the part before dispatch. How it works
Where a water pump, tensioner or single use bolt must be replaced at the same time, it is in the kit and the listing says so.
